What Is Level B?

Level B is part of the Start Here: Language Arts for Spellers series, written specifically for students ages 7–10 who use spelling to communicate. This year-long program combines word study, grammar, and literary analysis into an engaging 36-week journey, using a 4-day-per-week format that’s easy to follow at home or in small groups.

Lessons are built around movement, hands-on activities, and spelling practice—no worksheets, no guesswork, just clear, open-and-go teaching that meets your child right where they are.

What Your Child Will Learn

Weeks 1–12: Word Study
Students master syllable types, spelling rules, and common word parts (prefixes, suffixes, and root words) that make reading and spelling easier. They’ll tackle topics like silent e, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and rules for -ck, -tch, and -dge.

Weeks 13–24: Grammar & Punctuation
From subjects and predicates to pronouns, adjectives, and adverbs, students will learn how to build strong sentences. They’ll also master punctuation—periods, commas, apostrophes, and quotation marks—so they can write with clarity and correctness.

Weeks 25–36: Literary Analysis
Students explore stories in depth, learning about characters, settings, plot, main ideas, themes, and the author’s purpose. They’ll make predictions, inferences, and comparisons, and finish the year with strong reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
